Los Angeles 1930-60’s dangerous times for people of color…
Looking for shelter? Welcome to The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel.

Come with us back to the 30s and 40s on Central Avenue in L.A., where jazz was the music of the day. Sunshine and palm trees, cruising on Central Avenue with ease, where The Duke, The Count, Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne performed your favorite songs, and intellectuals debated the politics going on, and where everyday folk felt right at home. Where was this place you might ask, this place to be, that had all that pizzazz, all that jazz? Well, do tell, do tell. Come with us back to The Magnificent Dunbar Hotel!!!

L.A. Times LOVES The Magnificent Hotel Dunbar!!

Review L.A.’s Central Avenue heyday evoked with panache in ‘Dunbar Hotel’

Under Ben Guillory’s sharp-eyed direction, Levy Lee Simon’s four-part docudrama traces the nationally prominent Central Avenue luxury hotel’s heyday during the 1930s and ’40s, when its opulence offered a first-class answer to Jim Crow laws that prohibited even the most illustrious black Americans from staying in hotels that catered to whites.

Dunbar: Selected Scenes and Songs

A special thank you to all those who attended “Selected Scenes and Dunbar Songs” Fundraiser!

The Company has been invited to perform @ The National Black Theatre Festival (08/03 thru 08/08, 2015). That’ll be on the Wake Forest campus.

The campaign goal: @ $32,000, more than Eighteen Thousand of which has been pledged and paid. An on-line request to Delta Airlines is pending. A GoFundMe page remains active with over $8600 raised from sixty-one donors.

Our goal: being able to pledge each dollar raised to the travel/hotel/food/actor per-diem’s and Festival production expenses.
