Trella R. Walker

Senior Associate for Advisory Services, Nonprofit Finance Fund

After graduating from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education, Mrs. Walker pursued a career in nontraditional educational structures such as after school programs for homeless youth and career training programs for veterans. She later furthered her education by obtaining a Juris Doctorate in 1999, and utilized her education and career experience to work with innumerable nonprofits, assisting with restructuring, development, organizational management and even program development. Some of her accomplishments include gaining full accreditation for a nontraditional school upon first submission; developing and implementing a program to educate young women by designing a curriculum that utilized history and historically relevant literature to teach all subjects that resulted in a 100% high school graduation rate and 100% college acceptance rate; and utilizing her diverse background, to extend the mission through development and operations of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) under the helm of Founder and Artistic Director, Debbie Allen, and Co-Founder and Executive Director, Norman Nixon.

At present, Mrs. Walker is a Senior Associate for the Advisory Services Division of the Nonprofit Finance Fund, a recognized leader in providing financing and expert advice to mission-driven organizations facing strategic opportunities, changes or challenges. The NFF Advisory Services team works with nonprofit organizations, philanthropies, and other mission-driven partners to provide consulting services that address issues related to financial stability, adaptability, growth, and strategy for operating in an increasingly outcomes-driven environment.
